Another
look at who kept themselves moving this weekend and who fell behind.
Winners
Manchester City: There was always a possibility that a difficult
time in the Champions League and some bad press for Mancini would have a
detrimental effect on the league form but it doesn’t appear to be so. A 5-0
thrashing of Aston Villa and the fact that nobody else who was in the top four going
into the weekend won will be a massive boost to Mancini and his men who move
top of the league and remain unbeaten.
Reading: Massive win for McDermott, out of the drop
zone and with a game in hand on the three teams below them there is hope for
the Royals after all.
Southampton: Won the
crunch match, away. The confidence that the Saints will take from that game
could be huge.
Brendan
Rodgers: Unbeaten
in 7, a
solid win against a bogey team and almost in the top half, the spotlight is
firmly off the Scot and the Scousers for the moment and they will love it that
way.
Losers:
Man
United, Chelsea
and Everton:
Lumping these together because they all suffered away defeats that they should
have won. Admittedly Chelsea faced an in form West Brom but that’s no excuse for a team that boasts so
much talent. All three of these results are opportunities missed.
Mark
Hughes: Is going to
struggle to keep his job for much longer, QPR have a seemingly impossible
fixture at Man United next week. But from the following three against teams who
are not performing that well (Sunderland, Villa and Wigan)
Hughes will need at least 4 to 6 points to save his skin.
Emmanuel
Adebayor: Pretty
much solely responsible for stretching Tottenham’s losing streak to 3 on the
bounce after getting over excited. People might complain that it wasn’t quite
two footed but add the fact that it was high and late there was no doubt about
it being a red. Still can’t keep his head against Arsenal.
